Should there be any symptoms after the 8th day of embryo transfer (IVF)

i just did an embryo transfer.  After the first couple of days, I got crampings and several symptoms of pregnancy.  On the 8th day, all stop.  I tried the pregnancy test and it showed negetive.  The doctor wants to see me on the 12th day.  I'm just anxious.  Is the 8th day too soon?  when is the best and earliest time to check if you're pregnant after the embryo transfer?

There are many symptoms, except they may not be due to a pregnancy. All the hormones you took (and are still taking - Progesterone) can cause pregnancy like symptoms. Also, this crazy time of waiting and not knowing can easily play games with our own minds.I am not sure about the cramps. Do you have fibroids? They may cause some pain. As for the pregnancy test, I think that taking a home pregnancy test is a waste. It will most likely be false anyhow. Again, think of all the drugs that are part of the cycle. Just be patient and wait for the blood test.I had two embryos transferred yesterday (day 5) and my test is not until next Friday. IVF worked for me in the past so I am keeping a positive mind and wait in peace. The truth is though that it is MUCH easier the second time around. The first time was absolutely nerve-racking.

Good luck - Mina (also from Chicago)

P.S. Which clinic do you go to? I am an FCI River North patient.

I am on the 8th day also and I did an hpt and it came out negative, I don't know if I should believe that answer or what.  How did your visit to your doctor turn out? Wonderful I pray.

521 thumbs up

Fertility Stories - infertility experiences of people like you.

The 8th day is too soon for a pregnancy test to be positive.

As Sharmisek said, the hormones you're taking can mimic pregnancy symptoms, so I wouldn't worry if you've stopped feeling them. Even day 12 is a little early for a home pregnancy test, but it should be OK for an initial blood test.

Wishing you a lot of luck with your cycle! Feel free to share your story too!

Best regards,

I just had my ET on Friday 12/7/07.  My doctor told me to wait until my appointment on 12/21/07 for the blood results.  Since I'm not getting an HCG shot there will be no false positives but the wait is the same as if conceiving normally which is about 2 weeks.  I am also having cramping and a lot of pulling near my groin and down one leg.  Today is day 5 post ET.  Every symptom is confusing.  I got pregnant with my daughter on the first try and she's 3.  I've been trying for two years and every month I have different symptoms.  This is my first IVF cycle and I don't know what to expect so I'm trying not to let past symptoms interfere with my judgement.

Good luck to you and everyone else.  My doctor told me that this is 60% effective which is way higher odds than anything else we've done.  I know 5 people to did IVF and only one failed so the odds are pretty in our favor!

I'm back again.  One of my daughter's teacher had two successful IVF pregnancies with both of her children.  She told me if I want to find out sooner than my appointment on Friday 12/21/07 to do a HPT.  I couldn't stop thinking about it all day.  So while my husband was at work I did one and it came out positive right away.  I was up half the night thinking about this.  I did not tell my husband who would kill me if I tested early.  I wanted to see if a different test would show a positive.  I took a ClearBlue Easy Digital this morning and no results showed in the window.  So do I go buy more tests to drive myself crazy or wait until Friday?  I too have been having tremendous cramping and discomfort and my daughter's teacher keeps saying that this is a good sign.  I have nothing to compare this to since this is my first IVF and I've only had one positive pregnancy with my daughter over 4 years ago.
