Why do so many people ask REALLY stupid questions ...

Why do so many people ask REALLY stupid questions on Yedda? Are they proud of being brain-dead?  Don't they realize that typing the same question in a Google search will get them an answer much faster?

I'm quite serious about this, because I believe that Yedda provides a very valuable service (if not abused as it so often is).

Services like Yedda should be for questions involving opinion and perspective, because those would be hard to answer via Google.

Yet people keep asking questions like "how do you spell DOG?"

I'd really like to see Yedda ban people from wasting other people's time with their ignorance.

Or maybe it would be more entertaining for Yedda to publish the year's stupidest questions, complete with all profile details about the person stupid enough to ask that question.

I don't think that a person posting a query on Yedda is deliberately asking a stupid question; he/she really wants to know. The Yedda audience is unusually wide in that it attracts people of all ages and all walks of life. Some are adults and quite a number are teenagers. The beautiful side of Yedda is, that except for a few, most questions are accepted at face value by giving the questioner the benefit of the doubt and are answered sympathetically and intelligently. Another advantage of Yedda is the fact that it is monitored. There were times when I reported a purely commercial message or a posting written in the grossest of language and they were immediately removed.

All I want for Christmas is you....

I think you do make a good point that there are some very silly questions posted on yedda, sometimes questions that don't even make coherent sense.  I think those are the worst.  But actually, you can report questions to yedda and explain why you think the question should be removed.  I've done this before for a couple questions that just weren't questions, and it bothered me.  The questions were deleted.

I guess we have to be a little understanding.  I agree that the more interesting questions are the ones that are opinion based, things that you can't find on google in 5 seconds.  On the other hand though, yedda is actually there for the simple questions, too.  It's like, if I wanted to go to Spain on vacation, I could very easily find whatever I'd wanna know about Spain by typing "Spain Travel" into google.  But, I might rather choose  to hear what real people, who have been there, have to say?  Even questions that are more simple, like "Where is New Hampshire located," I think that these  questions are still OK for Yedda because Yedda is about sharing knowledge.  That person doesn't know where NH is but someone else can tell them.  I don't know.... I think it's something cool to be able to help others with things you know (even if they're simple), just to help someone else.

Love is the battery of life....

Hi,
Please don't be mad at me, but I don't like your question.... I think it's an arrogant question.  Questions that might look stupid or simple to you can be tough and complicated to others..... not all people are the same... not all people received the same education and not all people had the same chances to learn..... I believe that if someone posted a quetion that one's best way one could do or the only way to get an answer.   Having said that I believe that we should share our knowledge and answer any question that we can help (or provide a different angle).  If we go your way we'll end in a corner we never intended (what would happend if someone will ban my questions, or yours, claiming they are stupid ?....  or they won't let certain answers as well).   Better leave it as is and we all be much more lolerable to others.....
Best regards,

Now I am afraid that my answers will be banned on the grounds that my English is not perfect...... lol...... and I probablly have too many mistakes.....

I agree this is an issue but I am afraid its solution would not be easy. I don't think banning users would be of any good, that seems rather short-sighted to me.

Maybe some grammar check could be introduced, a lot of posted questions do not make ANY sense. Or maybe there should be available a pre-written reply such as "your question lacks basic grammar and/ or sense, please correct it by using the "edit" function"?

There is much to think about but I bet it would be worth the effort for the Yedda team - if they come up with a viable solution it would give Yedda a huge competitive edge over the competition.
