Can I stop buying Chinese products?

I'm feeling more and more bitterness towards China in recent years, for many reasons (human rights, pollution, social justice and so on). I thought about banning products from China but so much things are imported from there and I'm not sure it would even be possible to stop buying Chinese products and still get everything I need. What do you think?

I personally think it's a matter of will and money. I'm pretty sure that for every product imported from China, there's at least one 'replacement'.

If there's someone you should be angry at it's our own companies.Due to our high labour cost many have their products manufactured cheaply in China. NIKE for example has no manufacture in the Us; pAUL

I really think it will be impossible to stop completely buying Chinese products.

even your newspaper has inc from china.

but... if you stop you can make a great documentary film about it.

Can you stop participating in an interdependent economy?

Why stop at products?  Would you stop living in Israeli if you understood that China funds a large part of the America's national debt and thus indirectly some portion of aid to foreign nations like Israeli?

Improving China by engagement is the best way to go.

Ok, one question for you: Are you a resident of the U.S? If so, the U.S is partially to blame for pollution as well.

And no, it's impossible to not buy Chinese products. If you haven't noticed, nearly 90% of the things you buy are made from China: The spoons you use, you furniture, maybe even your pencil. And besides, Chinese people aren't evil you know, they're humans like us. It's not like they were born with 50% more inhuman doings than us.

It is a scary situation, I agree.   I have started to ask the retailer directly what they do to ensure that their products from china are safe?  I am typically just told they receive a recall list daily to check.  There is one Grocery Store, (Hy-Vee) that actually sends a member of their upper management to the factory to do regular inspections; that made me feel safe to buy from them.

You are totally right on the mark.  Our country is so saturated with Chinese products that we can't boycott them unless we go without most of our needs.  The generic products and the name brand products are all the same,  paying more doesn't even get us better products (as we witnessed in the pet-food recall.

We all need to hold the retailers accountable.  Then, hopefully, our voices will be passed to the higher-ups.

It sure would be nice if our Government would step up to the plate and watch imports more closely.   Better yet, if the government would subsidize manufacturers in the United States.

Actually, I think we, Americans should exercise our free speech and picket the biggest offenders like Walmart and the various "dollar stores".  It seems to work for the unions when they picket.

It will be refreshing for you to know that Walmart's stocks are dropping. But their ethics are still lower.  The latest is poison in some of their baby bottles.

Where is the FDA in this whole mess?

With the weather being nice, I will plan to picket soon if I can located some  friends to help me out; because I alone will not make much impact.  But what the heck,  we have to start somewhere.

Good luck, if you find some answers, feel free to drop me a note.
