How to stop acidity in tomato based recipes?

How to cut acidity in recipes calling for tomato sauce or paste.  I can eat fresh tomatoes and they do not bother me, but sometimes the soups and sauces will give me heart burn.  What can I do to prevent this from happening?

hi jeannie

I always add a teaspoon of sugar to any recipe with tomatoes in,  it takes away the acidity.

Hi GemGe!

Thanks for your reply.  I think I remember my mom using sugar in some of her recipes.  I will try it for sure.

Happy Holidays to you and your family.

Jeanine
