Why do I have diarrhea after meals?

This is really bugging me. I've been trying to figure out what the problem is for a long time now. Immediately after my evening meals I need the loo (sometimes before I finish) and this begins with a stomach ache and then diarrhea once I make it to the toilet. Once I've been to the loo I'm absolutely fine.

What annoys me most is I already know it's unlikely to be due to food intolerance as I know what I'm intolerant to and I don't eat those things. I also have a strange feeling that it MAY be linked to hot meals or big meals, I'm not sure which. The reason I say this is that I never get the problem when I eat lunch which is cold food and not all that much.

It's beginning to worry me more as this has been ongoing for probably over a year, but it's not something I've concerned myself with normally as like I say, once I've been to the loo I'm fine again. I just really want to know why I get the stomach ache and diarrhea. It's only after my evening meal which is almost always hot and usually larger than all my other meals.

I really hope someone can offer a suggestion as to what might be causing this.

Thanks

There could be many reasons, be it's hard to tell without examination, that's why I think you should consult a physician.

One of the common causes for Diarrhea right after eating is malabsorption of fat.

Sounds like you've got an irritable bowel disease. I've got Crohn's disease and this all sounds very familar. But you really should see a doctor. They can do tests and help you find out what the problem is.

I have the same problem, and after a lot of testing was diagnosed with irritable bowel syndrome. One thing my doctor has advised is to try and not eat a big meal after several hours with an empty stomach. What happens is once the food hits your stomach, your brain says "oh, we better start moving fast to make room for all this food" and it moves too quickly which causese the diarrhea. It can also be caused by like you say, hot foods, or certain foods that you don't tolerate well. You should see if it is linked to an allergic reaction to monosodium glutimate ie. celiac disease, but there are treatments. Because it isn't after every meal, the chances are it is not life threaghtening. Good luck.

Causes of diarrhea are very diverse and include infections, allergies, chronic inflammatory diseases, tumors and inborn errors of intestinal digestion and transport. the most frequent reasons for diarrhea in our society are stress and laxative abuse. You can see your doctor and read Chinese Natural Cures: Traditional Methods for Remedies and Prevention.
