In stead of cutting off the cap...

In stead of cutting off the cap... I am an old pipe smoking and use a pipe tool to put a hole in the end of the cigar.. the hole is no bigger then a tooth pick and about 1.5 to 2" long.... my question is.... Is this a good thing or a bad one....

The small hole often punched in which you are describing is too small for proper use. Many people do choose to use a cigar punch which creates a hole about a centimeter in diameter. Anything smaller will not allow for a proper draw off the cigar.

I prefer the cigar punch over the traditional cutter. It is cleaner and more consistent.
