Can I get a stamp visa out of country after got a change in my status?

Hi... I got my status changed from tourist (J-1) to student (F-1) been in US, so, I don't have the stamp in my passport and consequently I can not go to Brazil (my country). I live in Minessota and I was wondering if I can go to Mexico with my papers (I-20, I-94, Letter from the Homeland Department ) and get the stamp in my visa. Doing this I can travel to another places nearest here instead go to Brazil and apply again with no guarantee that I will be accepted. Thanks Flavia

Flavia, I encourage you to go to the nearest U.S. Immigration Office and inquire personally over there. You don't want to jeopardize your status. Good luck to you.
