Do you speak thru music? What song(s) describe you? Theme songs for your life??

Seems that Profit Bob and I are not the only people who "speak" thru music ~ what's that old quote?? “When words fail....music speaks…” or something along that line??

I was trained in classical piano starting at age 2 and voice lessons started once I was old enough to read. I think that because I learned to play (by ear at first, then by reading music) before I was really able to communicate easily, it’s part of the reason I’m that way. (If that makes sense??)

If you had to pick "theme songs" for your life ~ or for certain times your life (don't limit it to life ~ share them all!!) what song or songs would describe you?? Post as many as you’d like ~ the more the happier I’ll be!!

One class we were required to take in high school was called "Living With Death" and we had to plan our own funerals (what we'd wear, who we'd give our possessions to, what readings/music we'd like, who we'd like to speak, etc.)

Also, do you think it's odd that I have certain songs picked out for my own funeral?

Not to be macabre, but I originally was going to go into mortuary science and worked/lived above a funeral home. I learned so much and saw so much, and one thing I realized was that it was not what I was cut out to do. My coworkers could basically be split into 2 groups: 75% of them were raging alcoholics with anxiety/depression issues and the other 25% were not just Christian ~ they were OVER THE TOP (WAAAAAAAAAAAY OVER THE TOP) born again Christians who preached to me every time we worked together.

It was then I knew it was not what I wanted for a career. I couldn't see myself going down either path ~ and even though they were very nice people, I think some had some HUGE issues.

Pick out something from maybe each decade and what you'd like at the end. I love sharing music and it fascinates me, so I hope you'll join me!! :) And I don’t say this to be macabre ~ or to sound strange ~ but after you list the songs for various decades of your life (either titles or you tube videos or however you’d like to do it), what is one song you’d like to be played as the last song at your funeral.

My Mother gets mad at me when I discuss that last part, and was angry when it was a homework assignment for school, but I guess I look at death and dying differently now. If you’d like me to tell you what I learned from someone very wise that I worked with (who wasn’t an alcoholic or over the top Christian) and how he described death and what it’s like for our soul to leave our body, let me know.

It was something that really made me think about things MUCH differently ~ and more positively.

I'd love to hear your replies.

I'll get mine together if you'd like to see them as well. :)

Ailie

Just remember, if the grass always seems greener on the other side...it's probably because there is more manure there.

Dear Allie,

I too am a music lover and love to express myself through song. I can play guitar and bass guitar, drums and can fake my through harmonica…lol. I also play by ear which in some ways allows me to hear the song and music in a more understanding way than if I were just reading the notes off sheet music.

I too, am a born again Christian, but I do not flaunt my faith or preach to others. I accept people for who they are, what they believe or don’t believe is their business. This is not to say that I won’t share my beliefs if we were on that subject – it’s just that I do not judge people or force my beliefs on anyone.

As for a list of music that allows me to describe my life, - it would be a very long list but I have listed some of those that have really been important to me.

The Cat’s in the Cradle – Harry Chapin

Help - Beatles

If There’s A Rock and Roll Heaven

One (is the loneliest number) – Three Dog Night

Midnight Confessions – The Grassroots

I’m Your Captain – Grand Funk Railroad

You Can’t Always Get What you Want – Rolling Stones

Feeling Alright – Dave Mason/Grand Funk/Joe Cocker

When the Night Comes – Joe Cocker

Power of Love – Huey Lewis

Forever Man – Eric Clapton

Can’t You See (what that woman is doing to me) – Marshall Tucker Band

Drift Away – Dobie Gray

Blue Sky – Allman Brothers

As I stated earlier, this list go could on into the hundreds. I hope this gives you a good start. - Louis

There are a lot of music/songs that I can relate to. It usually varies depending on my mood. I am also a writer so I tend to listen to the lyrics more than the music. So when I say I like the song, it usually pertains to the lyrics. So yeah, I guess I can sometimes let music speak for my feelings.
