Where to go in spain - barcelona or madrid???

I am interested in studying abroad in Spain. However, I am very confused about where to go - Barcelona or Madrid. I've heard great things about both cities so its hard to decide. I've also heard that Barcelona has two languages making it harder to actually practice Spanish. Also Madrid tends to get really hot in the summer. Anyone who has visited or studied abroad in spain i would appreciate any suggestions, opinions, pros and cons about ur experiences anything about studying abroad there. thanks soo much

Hi,

It really depends on what you intend to study.

Both cities are great - Barcelona is more "cosmopolitan", more Mediterranean while Madrid is more "Iberian".

If studying Spanish is your gal - choose Madrid.

ive been to both and they are really different. It really depends on what you want from the city.

Barcelona has the advantage of having the city, beaches and the ability to ski in the Winter but it
can sometimes be hard with the language as they speak a dialect called Catalan which is quite differnet
to Spanish.

Madrid is awesome too, the parties are good and the people are very open. It does get hot in the Summer
but there are good connections to other coastal cities and it is said that people from Madrid have the
purest accents when speaking Spanish so if you are going to learn the language, Madrid is probably your
best bet :)

I usually used http://www.holistay.com/spain/ to book my accomodation but other sites like
http://www.lastminute.com and http://www.expedia.com usually have good last minute deals too.
