Yes, you need to get immunization for Malaria, which is present at some parts of SA.

Consult you physician for further information and advise.  

I don't think there is much danger of malaria in the garden route, however you might need other vaccinations for South Africa. I seem to recall there was a problem with Yellow Fever some years ago.

There is no need for immunization for the main cities (JHB, Durban, cape Town) or places like the Garden route. I just came back from 6 weeks trip to S. Africa , mainly in JHB and Cape Town, and I did not require any immunization at all.

I am from Johannesburg, there is no need for any immunisation. Malaria is prevalent in the far northen reaches of the country, for that you get tablets from your Doctor which you take prior to going to the Kruger national Park. Other than that there should be no problem. The garden route is in the western cape, no malaria there
