The bottle sounds like a homemade bong (waterpipe) and the brown stuff sounds like Hash. I wouldn't make to big a deal out of it or he'll probably just smoke it more. Let him know it's not o.k. and if he gets into trouble you won't get him out but it's safer he smoke the stuff hiding in his yard than on the street.
