Below are some troubleshooting steps. If at any point you try installing MSN Messenger and it begins working again there's no need to continue troubleshooting.

Make Sure: a.. That the account you're running is an administrator account.

b.. That you have the latest MSN Messenger version (http://messenger.msn.com/Download/); even if you think you have the latest version please download it again.

c.. That you have the latest Windows Messenger version (http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/r...Messeng er%22).

d.. That you have the latest Service Pack available for your version of Windows (http://www.google.com/search?q=Micro...Service+P ack).

e.. That you have the latest Internet Explorer version (http://www.microsoft.com/windows/ie/).

f.. That you have the latest DirectX version (http://www.microsoft.com/windows/directx/).

g.. That you have the latest Windows Update's (http://windowsupdate.microsoft.com).

h.. That you're virus free (http://security.symantec.com/sscv6/vc_about.asp).

i.. That you're spyware free (http://www.microsoft.com/athome/secu...ware/software/).

b.. Try installing MSN Messenger; continue if it does not work.

c.. Re-register Windows Installer:

If you've done all that, then:

a.. Click Start, and then click Run.

b.. In the Open box, type "msiexec /unreg", and then click OK.

c.. Click Start, and then click Run.

d.. In the Open box, type "msiexec /regserver", and then click OK.

NOTE: If you have an operation system older then Windows XP you might need to install the latest version of Windows Installer to get it to work. For Windows 95, 98 and ME go to http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/d...-DE3BB768148F, for Windows NT 4.0 or 2000 go to http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/d...isplaylang=en.

d.. Try installing MSN Messenger again; continue if it does not work.

e.. Turn off any spyware detection programs.

a.. If you have the Microsoft® Windows® AntiSpyware (Beta) installed, right-click the Windows AntiSpyware icon in the taskbar notification area and click "Shutdown Microsoft AntiSpyware". To turn off non-Microsoft anti-spyware programs, refer to instructions provided by the manufacturer.

f.. Try installing MSN Messenger again; continue if it does not work.

g.. You may not have enough free disk space. The Disk Cleanup tool calculates how to safely free up disk space on your hard disk. To make some disk space available:

a.. Click Start, and then click Control Panel.

b.. Click Performance and Maintenance.

c.. Click "Free up space on your hard disk".

The Disk Cleanup dialog box appears, select your drive.

d.. On the Disk Cleanup tab, select the following check boxes:

a.. "Downloaded Program Files"

b.. "Temporary Internet Files"

c.. "Temporary Files"

d.. "Temporary Offline Files"

e.. "Offline Files"

e.. Click OK to delete the files from these locations.

f.. When prompted, click Yes start the disk cleanup.

h.. Try installing MSN Messenger again, if MSN Messenger continues not to install please reply with as much information as possible including error messages and numbers for further evaluation of your problem.
