But why should I be force to quit if I don't want to. I think some of the laws that are out there are ridiculous ex. not smoking in parks, not smoking in bars, raising taxes so much where we can't afford them. I feel that wrong, and if their are anyone out there who believe in fairness should understand what I'm saying. I have a constitutional right to be able to consume  what I buy and a right to purse happiness. Why should I get arrested for having a smoke while walking down the street?

So on and so on, I used to be a heavy smoker UNTIL I had my forth heart attack. I now have eight bypasses in my chest from two heart surgeries. Let me ask you this, is it worth what I have gone through for the pleasure of smoking a cigarette where the law says that you can't? Or do you perfer to be arrested and charged? As far as I am concerned, I have not had a cigarette since December of 2002 and had my second heart surgery on Jan. 3 of 2003. Darlin' think before you act. Michael Joel Held

Sometimes we put up walls not to keep people out, but to see who cares enough to break them down.

You have a constitutional right to smoke if you like, as long as you are not breaking any laws, even if they seem ridiculous.  We don't get to pick and choose which laws we obey and which ones we don't. They are there for a reason.  As for being fair, life is not fair.  Jesus died at 33, if life were fair, you'd   be dead by now and not complaining about life being fair.

So On and So On, Again, No one is forcing you to quit. If you want to smoke, you can. You just have to pay whatever the price is for your purchase. For example: If you wanted to go on an around the world cruise, you can. No one is stopping you. You just have to pay the big bucks to go. If you can't afford it, you don't go. You don't own the parks, and you don't own the bars. So if the owners don't want you smoking there, then you don't smoke there. You go and find somewhere else to smoke. Just like if you don't want someone to smoke pot in your house, the pot smoker has to find somewhere else to go and smoke it. You have to realize, dear, that you do not own the world. There are rules and regulations for everything today. I don't like the high price of food today, but I still have to pay it if I want to eat. So please quit thinking that you are being forced to quit smoking when you aren't. If you want to smoke and can't afford to, then you have to find more work to make more money to pay for your pleasure. Sorry, but that's life.

Why do atheists hate people?

The last job I had was a year ago.  Some idiot with a cigarette walked into the spray booth.  It went sky high, killed one man and injured four more, including me.  I'm on disability now and will be for life but it doesn't pay the bills.

That is why you shoud not smoke.

Non smokers have turned into fanatic fascists that consider smokers criminals.

On the other hand, and I am a smoker, you do have an obligation to be considerate of others who don't smoke. I know that can be hard sometimes when some nut job gets in your face about it. But you made the choice to smoke of your own free will. You have a right to continue doing so. But you do have to abide by the laws, no matter how unfair they are.

Hi Stressed.  Some, in fact many, smokers have managed to quit. I know many.  My son is not one of them however.  You have to have a deep desire to quit.  You cannot lean on any outside force.

My father was a four pack a day smoker, so I was raised around smoke, but neither my husband nor I smoke.  In fact, my oldest son (of 3) is the only smoker in our family, but I too can see the injustice in some of the laws I've heard/read about.

For instance: In your own apartment, if you live in a condomininum.

 In your own automobile.

Outdoors in the parks.

Now, I understand the arguments, but it does seem to me that we, who want everything to be perfect, are asking a bit much with some of these laws.

1.  Second-hand smoke is every bit as unhealthy as that from smoking.
2.  I have the right not to have my clothing stink after walking through a room where smoking is forbidden.
3.  Smokers ignore the rules because they think that they are above ANY law.  You have the right to drive on public highways without drunks driving all over the road.  I have the right to walk into my shop and not have to worry that some yo-yo will light a cigarette and turn the building into burned-out hulk!

That only starts the issue, So On.
