I find women are more bhakti (path of devotion) men tend to be more jnani (path of wisdom). Both paths are said to lead to the same source
I would imagine there are 50/50 in terms of awakened people. A lot of the women that call themselves 'spiritual' are far from awake. A lot of women i know consider themselves spiritual because they read their sun signs, do yoga, light incense.
Male sages seem to have a much deeper impact than their female counterparts though
most of the greatest teachers/masters/gurus/mystics have been men. Ramana maharshi, Nisargadatta maharaj, Ramakrishna, krishnamurti, buddha, jesus, adyashanti, osho, gurdjief, most of the zen and sufi lineages, creators of yoga, rishis, tibetan buddhists etc etc etc etc etc
