both actually. there are plenty of dofollow social bookmarking sites like digg, mixx, reddit, etc where you can get backlinks from. there are also others that are nofollow meaning you canot get backlinks form them. then again, different search engines have different policy in terms of nofollo links

Social bookmarking does count.  It depends whether your top criteria is traffic or pagerank.  Social bookmarking can add to both your pagerank and you may get direct traffic too.

Yes it does actually. As long as the bookmarking site is a do follow it can count as backlinks.  Always do a social bookmarking with popular sites like delicious, diigo, oyax and etc so that you get more traffic and eventually benefit from this.

Delicious is no longer dofollow as far as I know.

I'm sure social networking does count - but how about this site? If I were to add a link here for eatjobs.co.uk (education and training job site) would that help / count as a backlink?
