I have been buying on-line for years, and have never had a problem. There was only one time I needed to return something, and the transaction ran smoothly. I also buy on e-bay, but I do watch the number of satisfied transactions the buyer has had--no problems with over 100 items I have purchased. There are usually shipping charges, but no taxes. It is also IMPORTANT to read the item descriptions thoroughly to ascertain exactly what you are getting. Usually within four or five days, I have my items.
Most of my purchases are from them, but I also buy from companies instead of spending time going shopping and dealing with the crowds, only to find that the store doesn't carry what I want. As for paying for the items, I have an account with paypal.com and, most of the time, just use it rather than giving my credit card information out when I don't need to. Good luck with your shopping
