It's supposed to take a week for the pill to kick in, so as long as you hit that 1 week mark you should be fine.

{Insert Catchy Phrase HERE}

I know you posted this almost a year ago, and judging from the fact that you didnt ask anything later about having a baby, I'm assuming you're not pregnant.  I'm posting an answer to perhaps help someone reading this later in the same situation.

One of the first things the doctor giving you the birth control should have told you is that depending on your individual body chemistry "the pill" can take up to 6 weeks to become fully effective and several months to wear off if you were to stop taking it.  It has to build up to a certain level in your bloodstream before it really works.  Most drugs that are prescribed to be taken regularly (anti-depressants, etc.) function on a consistent level in the blood.

So yes, if you just started taking it a week ago it's entirely possible that you could get pregnant.  As for taking the test, there are several reliable over the counter tests that claim to be able to predict pregnancy within a week of conception but the most reliable way to know is to go to your ob/gyn and have them check.

you should read the insert that comes with your pills,Im on ortho 777 and mine said that you should wait up to a month to be protected.But Im not sure if thats for all pills.As far as being pregnant figure out when ur last period was and when it should come again,then you can take a test about 4-5 days before you expect your period.Hope this helped a little...be careful and use protection for a while..

You can still become pregnant.Hormone therapy has to be taken for a month before it is effective.{ usually until after your 2 mentrual cycle }.Use another form of birth control for a month or a little longer.

If you think you may already be pregnant,have a test done as soon as possible.Birth control pills can cause problems with a developing fetus.

Be advised,Birth control pills do not protect against STD's.
