How do i setup two different brands of wireless routers on one ISP?

I'm trying to setup a home network.  I am using a Linksys WRT54G and a Westell Versalink Model 327W the second one was provided by my ISP (I'm using DSL but thats another story all together).  I want to setup both devices to be used for wireless.  The internet is coming into the Westell and then that is connected to the Linksys through cat5. Our building is old and i am not able to run Cat 5.  The reason i'm having to use both for wireless is because the walls are so thick i can't get a signal to cover the whole apartment.  From what i have already looked at online, its not a good idea to chain multiple routers, but i really have no choice.  How do i set up these two devices so that they both will broadcast wireless?

It couldn't be worse.

It is not such a bad idea to chain 2 routers if you do it properly. You made it sound like you wanted to have one plugged into the other and have them both broadcast signals right next to eachother. But that wouldn't help you at all... I assume that you want to have the Westell router/modem plugged in to the DSL, and then you want to have the Linksys wirelessly connect to the Westell, and then your laptop connect to the linksys to extend the range of your network. This is NOT EASY, will require some messing with settings. Essentially what you want to do is set up the linksys the way that you usually would. Then you want tto go into it's settings and disable it from acting as a DHCP server and see if you can aquire a link wirlessly as an uplink from the westell. I'd really have to be there. Perhaps you know someone who could help you? Feel free to ask for more details.

If you want good network preformance I think you should connect the routers by wires, but it's not a must.

anyway, as dereo says you have todisable one router's DHCP, and leave the other one enabled, then you need to set the wireless settings for each router, then you should set the internet (DSL) connection and finaly check all the settings are good and I think it should work.

hope you'll be able to understand how your routers' configuration works, otherwise you need to find someone to help you.
