when setting up my spam control and I select (allow mail only from people I no) does this mean that people with my e-mail address are the only ones I will receive mail from? If not is there a setting I can do this with , instead of putting all of them in filters?

It means that only people whose address is in your contact or safe list will get delivery to your inbox. All other incoming mail will go to your junk mail folder.
