i think a secured card is one where you would give the bank say, $1,000 dollars and they give you a credit card with that limit. so essentially, you are building your credit score by using this card while not becoming more in debt. this allows people with bad credit to turn things around into a positive direction, and 'get their lives back'.

Because it's what they have been trained to say. Have you considered using one of those authorized user tradeline programs. They are very affordable and would get you well on your way to having better credit. My mom used it and not only was able to open other accounts, but her score jumped 51 points. Check out the free evaluation form at www.totaldebtsolutionsllc.com They can help.

I am not sure about secured credit cards.  My credit card counseling service told me to stay away from most credit cards, no matter which kind they are.

By using your secured credit card and timely keeping up with your credit cards payments, these will be reported to the credit reporting agencies. After a few months, you should be able to see an improvement in the status of your credit.
