Age Old question here but if a tree falls in a forest and noone is around to hear it does it still make a sound?

By definition, sound is the vibration of air (or other medium such as water or solids).  Likewise, hearing is the perception of such vibrations.  Therefore, a tree (or any other object) falling makes these vibrations, and thus sound.  Whether there is anyone (or any other living thing) around to hear it is irrelevant.

Nice question, but the answer is simpler than you might think:

 If you define sound as an objective phenomena, then yes, the falling tree creates a sound, regardless of whether or not there's  someone to hear it.

If you define sound as a subjective experience, then no, since there's no one to experience the sound.
