what does the southern expression mean "I will be out of pocket for a few days?"

I think it means that you'll be short of money for a few days... meaning that you need to not spend any money and lay low for a few days until you get paid.

It means that you will either be in debt or without funds for a couple of days, usually until the end of the month. The saying also implies that more money is expected. If you are out of pocket you are telling the person that you won't be able to spend or pay out any money.
