How can I save money on groceries?

My husband has a sensitive stomach and is lactose intolerant. We have to buy special groceries that are easy to digest. We replace milk with soy milk and buy mostly organic foods. We even try to buy wheat-free products when we can afford it. That is our problem. These foods are much more expensive than regular groceries. I am used to budgeting when I go to the grocery store, but it is difficult when I am shopping for him as well. How can we save on our grocery bill and still cater to his dietary needs?

Firstly, I would tell you to give up on the organic foods.  They are no more healthy and make no difference with the stomach.  Fruits and vegetables should really only be eaten in proportion if he has a problem with his stomach, because the stomach is very sensitive to these things, as well as dairy.  As far as the dairy is concerned, I would go out of your way to find the cheapest grocery store around.  Where I live, there are at least 6 grocery stores around, and each has different prices.  I've found one that is the cheapest, and it makes a difference with shopping.

I totally agree with dreadlocks about organic foods; they aren't worth the difference in price because they don't offer all the benefits they advertise. Just wash the fruits and vegetables well in soap. Now you can shop around and find which stores have the best prices and avoid impulse shopping; always take a shopping list with you. You will also find life a lot easier.

I have the same problem that your husband has and I too live on a very limited budget. Unlike dreadlocks and harryvan, I have found that organic produce is more easily digestible, not only because it has no pesticides on it but it has been raised in soils much richer in enzymes than regular produce. I just shop carefully and buy everything else at Costco - saves me a fortune! Drinking chamomile tea with meals has helped my digestion a lot, but Metazyme Digestive enzymes and Jarrow probiotics are the most help.
