If you're buying the Sidekick ID online, it looks like you do have to get a "SideKick Data Plan."  (

T-Mobile Sidekick Plans)  So I'd recommend that you call T-Mobile customer service or go to a T-Mobile store in order to see whether you can refuse the Internet service.
