Salt Glazed pottery is a type of pottery where salt is added to the Klin. The Salt reacts with the Silica in the clay at 1660 F . This reaction creates the colors on the clay surface.

I thought the salt was added to the glazed piece after it's fired, during the cooling phase? Oh, well. You learn something everyday.
