Is it a safe assumption that the normal family structure is almost a necessity?

A normal family usually consists of one mother, one father and a number of childeren (and possibly some extention to it, such as other relatives). As with many things, some people try to avoid the norm, or ignor it. Asare formed other family structures, such as single mothers, mothers in other relationships, mothers with adopted children, or fathers with any of the above.

In at least one sense, even a singlemother, or a mother insome other kind of a relationship, can easily be considered still to be family with exactly her child (orchildren) and that childs father  -  or each childs father, respectively, if there are several. Possibly that is very important in some kind of spiritual sense, appart from the worldly knowledge that it (much more certainly) pertains to.

Therefore, starting a family seems to be counter-intuitive, at least in a sense, I feel, if there is not any indication of there being mother and father for family kind of involvement. At the sametime, it does seem intuitive to me to contradict norms if it actually leads to some kinds of perspectives that are better than the normal ones. ... But, in my experience, they have not, in long run, been anything but very extreme in pretention. I mean those people having such perspectives seem to exploit (by pretention) much of the plausability of norms, thus creating an illusion of a world in which we don't need them. ...

I think a normal family structure helps, but define normal. A single parent family, two moms, two dads, mother and stepfather, etc. I don't think the vital things really depend on a family structure. A mother and father is nice, but what if the mother or father is a drunk, or abusive, or in any way a horrendous role model. No, to me the most important thing is the quality of the person or persons who are involved and how they raise that child. What do they teach them? How do they structure their lives? How much time do they spend with them. I mean an hour spent as a family watching a TV show isn't quality time.

frevelm,

Yes, it is a safe assumption that the normal family structure is almost a necessity.  While "normal" for me is somewhat different from my original family structure, the basic structure "faith" was in place during my early years of life.  What is "normal" for someone else will have it's own uniqueness.  I may or may not agree with their "normal" due to my own socialization.

Having said that, I have "fine tuned" myself into a model which I feel works well for my family and self, in addition to those associated with me.  Since life and the world around us changes daily, I need to keep myself "fine tuned"...healthy, balanced, prepared, listening, questioning, thinking, studying, mentoring, leading and living a healthy lifestyle by setting the example.

What we DO matters.  It can influence others.  If we think it does not, it is because we are still learning ourselves and aren't ready to teach or lead. Wink

Many Blessings in ALL YOU DO,

Necessity for what?   Happiness?  Fullfillment?

While the "normal" family structure (mom/dad/children)might be the ideal, family is more than that.

Family can be just two people who love each other and share a life.  They might be an elderly brother and sister or two brothers or two sisters.  They might be two neighbors who are fond of each other and enjoy doing "family" things together(dinner/church/entertainment/sports).

Therefore, if I understand your question correctly, I have to answer, "No" the "normal" family structure is not a necessity for happiness and fullfillment.

Perhaps I haven't interpreted your question correctly.  Clarify for me, if I have not.
