It is not always what it seems.

Does being rude make you feel better?

Do you think that just because a person is in their 80's that it gives them the right to be rude?

Being 80 is no excuse to be rude but remember he or she might not remember or know they are being rude.

There is never a need or OK to call someone a "smart ass" or any other name. I could have reported that person, but I don't want to be that petty or hurtful. And just for the record, I am very ill, at home or in the hospital and in constant pain. Does that mean I can get on Yedda and be rude? I think and believe not.

Real Eyes, Realize, Real Lies.

Uhm... no, not really. I suppose the only reason you could give them some slack would be like... say they had some sort of disability? And they couldn't always tell right from wrong or you know... something around those lines.  Undecided

Turn off the television and teach your children how to think.

I am rather confused. Your question reads as though it is about someone you know, yet your topic references actor Jeff Goldblum.

Your further post makes it seem as though this elderly rude person you have encountered is a member of Yedda whom you chose not to report.

Which is it?

Meanwhile, I have to say that while age is no excuse to be rude, older people are often more blunt and outspoken. Such behavior may be seen as "rude" by younger people or by people not accustomed to speaking their mind openly and honestly.

As such, it is not rude. Perhaps without as much tact as would ordinarily be used in mainstream society - but by no means rude.

Remember, we must all choose our battles. My best suggestion is to let it go in one ear and out the other.

SylviaIEM, I have to add that I just noticed that your question originated from another member's profile. A member whose profile states that s/he is 80-some years old.

So I checked your questions and answers.

Sylvia, Bklackie did not call you a "smart ass." S/he also did not call Jeff Goldblum a "smart ass."

S/he made reference to a CHARACTER Jeff Goldblum portrays in a particular television show - a character whose manner evidently comes off as that of a "smart ass."

To my way of thinking, the statement was not rude, nor was it directed at anyone in particular.

There would have been no need for you to report it. It was not a violation of Yedda's Terms of Use and it is not in any way hateful, rude or derogatory.

I think we are all sorry you were upset, but I think you need to take a second look at what was written. You have made an error in judgment and owe Bklackie a silent apology.
