Dear Mr. Stromer,
We have 2 rooms that were added onto the back of our house by the previous owners - (1) was previously a patio, which I put a subfloor on with waterproofing paper underneath and tiled. The other room has no foundation and the wooden floor has recently started to flood every time it rains hard, thus sinking that floor in and causing the water to run over into the other patio room. The floor is approximately 3 feet above the ground and the outside wooden walls were built flush to the ground.
I am going to tear out the floor and possibly will need to replace the outside plyboards as well. How can I construct this room without a foundation: Should I put gravel underneath with a french drain? What should I do about the outside wooden walls not sitting on a concrete foundation? I know that there is a way to do this because my Father did this to a couple of rooms in our family home many years ago and we never had any water problems afterwards.
Is this something that you can help me with?
Thank you.
