What are ridges on the fingernails supposed to indicate? I have some vertical ridges, running from bottom to top. I have been told that this is an indicator of something, but I can't remember.
I belive it means u r Calcium deficant
Drink more milk
it could be a calcium defect. or they could be just dry and brittle. or if you have your nails done a lot it could be that. i wouldn't worry. but if it is the calcium defect then you doctor can sort it and just try and eat and drink more dairy products.
it could be a fungus
Any pain or disappointment is transformed into growth and understanding.
It may mean you are lacking a certain vitamin.
My health assessment book says ridges are caused by iron deficiency.
I have ridges also and believe it was from wearing fake fingernails for many years.
Have also heard the "lack of vitamins" theory from many people over the years.
I'm betting it's due to a lack of calcium.
I understand that you are all trying to be helpful, but I would really recommend against answering on these kinds of forums with "what you've heard". If you have read it in a book or on a health professionals' website, please include the reference. Otherwise, you may cause people to waste their time and money trying treatments that have no medical background whatsoever.
Here is what a physician from the Mayo Clinic has to say:
