I heard that Peter Jackson is not going to direct the hobbit film because of some dispute he has with the producers. I'm a bit shocked, frankly. Who do you think should/can replace him? I can't think of anyone...
I really think no one can do it better then terry Gilliam, he can take a set and make it in to some thing magical but no too much "Hollywood magic"
There is a rumor that Sam Raimi may take the job.
I think he would be a good fit, he's inventive, a bit different and his movies tend to have a whimsical feel to them...he's done the real horror/monster movie thing quite well and can work with a variety of actors.
Here is his IMDB page --> http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0000600/

Frankly, who cares? Any megalomaniac overrated director will do. If you build your films on the shaky foundation of CGI special effects, it doesn't make a difference at the end.
jackson has apparantly now been reinstated by new line to be the director.
It doesn't matter as long as it isn't Peter Jackson. PJ's directing wasn't all THAT good. He has a crappy attitude towards The Hobbit, and he films things too dark (as in lighting) and after that abortion remake of King Kong he'll be lucky to direct commercials. No we don't want Peter Jackson to do The Hobbit.
