I have removed quite a few here in the Desest Southwest. Use a pump sprayer to lighly wet ceiling, then you can peel it right off with a 6 inch drywall knife.

You can then finish with spray texture, do a skip trowel or use interior plaster coat.

Carefully. Pre-'79ish could be asbestos. Look for shiney flecks. Spritz with water mist, let soak in several minutes, then scrape with 4" putty knife. Use a drop cloth. If you want smooth ceiling expect to mud several times to get a good finish. If replacing with orange peel it's easier.

Tammy, Purchase a "Hudson Sprayer" fill with water &Spray onto the celinguntel pretty wet. Use a wide scraper and it will come off fairly easy. They make a scraper with a bag attached so as not to spill too much..  Really is a messy job. but, fairly easy.  Most time spent will be clean up.

Yep, Terry has the right answer. Pretty messy job tho. And try not to gouge the drywall while scraping it otherwise your mudding those holes too

Champions Realty® is a FULL SERVICE Real Estate Company.  NOT a DISCOUNT or Limited Service Brokerage.

Take a spray bottle and fill it with water.  Spray it on the popcorn but do not saturate it.  Scrape it a little at a time.  Make sure that you tape a drop cloth down and cover everything.  It is a very messy project.

You can remove this ceiling by simply painting it with a flat wall paint and scraping it while it is still wet. I suggest using cheap paint rather than water because water will damage the drywall and paint will not. You really have to be fast though. Once the paint dries you are basically FUBAR if you Know what I mean.
