Can't remember the name of a movie

The movie was about police investigators researching a murder and the traces led them to a military base. A woman had been killed who was the wife of a military man or something like that. The investigators had problems entering the military base, they were denied access or something like that but eventually found a way to enter it. There was a physicist working in the base, who played some central role in the movie, he used to have an affair with the woman killed. One of the military staff turned out to be the killer. I am almost sure the main character was played by Alec Baldwin.

There was a TV movie called "Sweet Revenge" that sounds something like that...look it up on www.imdb.com

I've seen that one, Jack Nicholson was the general and his daughter was murdered and there was something with a video tape. I think it was called "The General's daughter" - I'm going to check IMDB to make sure....
