i think that most self-righteous, arrogant religious people turn out that way because, when they first read the religious law ( the law of Moses, or the advices by Paul ) they see in themselves - reflected, as in a mirror - the possibility of commiting some or many of those actions. Then they build a rigid infrastructure of behavior, where all those acts are automatically condemned. They must act out on others that don't agree with them, or else the very fragile building on which they lean comes tumbling down. But even the great king David had his big sin, and recognition of it made him humble. There enters a moment in a person's life where his sinfulness is painfully revealed ; then, if he accepts his nothingness before God and those he condemns, a conversion begins - humility starts replacing arrogance. Let's not forget that the spiritual path is an ever-ongoing matter, it never ceases. And to be humble is one of the most important steps to be taken. After all - its a shame, but - don't we all learn by the slaps life gives us ? Please elaborate on this.
