Record Lows, Global Cooling Across the U.S.???

Pete Chagnon - OneNewsNow - 7/27/2009 5:30:00

Global warming or cooling?People all across the U.S. are asking a similar question: "What happened to summer?"

A check on Twitter will find a recurring tweet theme from people in New England. For example, "It's so depressing that it's the middle of July, cloudy, and barely 70 [degrees]." Another reads, "Had to wear my winter coat; it was 48 degrees this morning...in July!"

Marc Morano with ClimateDepot.com says all across America, record low temperatures have been broken throughout the summer. He blames that on a recent trend of global cooling that has been in place for more than seven years.

"The reason Climate Depot is covering this is because every heat wave, every extreme storm, everything the media tries to promote when it's the other way -- every hurricane, every drought, flood...they always blame everything on global warming," he notes. "So, all we are merely doing is pointing out some of the dramatic record low temperatures -- dramatic to the point where some meteorologists have dubbed 2009 the year without a summer."

Marc Morano (GOP EPW)

Nashville, hometown of global-warming enthusiast Al Gore, has broken a record low in the month of July -- a low that was set in 1877. Morano says there is nothing to be alarmed about, and that cold and warm cycles are a part earth's natural flow.

Morano does note some irony in that this recent cold spell is happening while Congress is debating "cap and trade" in an effort to curb global warming.

Questions:

Is'nt this what Politically Neutral Scientists (read Real Scientists) have been saying all along???

Do U believe that "Nature" Ebbs & Flows as it will & that Man can't destroy the World with Auto & Industrial Emmissions???

Scripture says that at the end of the "Millennial Rule of Christ" He will Destroy the World & Create "New Heavens & Earth". Do U believe this???

John

sorry to breakit to you but it's been just the opposite in south Florida. the last 60 days or so the highs have been consistently above average(low to mid 90's) and we even set a record high one day. Talk about weird weather though, we are two months into the hurricane season in the Atlantic(vs the pacific) and we haven't had our first tropical storm yet(a record). I have my own little theory about that but it ain't global cooling or warming. I'll let you know more about that in another couple of months if it continues. I don't do research, just read the local weather reports in the paper.

Time flies like an arrow.

Fruit flies like a banana.

So far this summer, New York and southern New England have gotten Seattle's weather and Seattle has gotten a New York summer.  The weather doesnt have to get warmer or colder, all it has to do is get unpredictable and unusual and we can have a lot of crop failures.

We cant destroy the universe or the planet.  But we live on a giant spaceship with temperature control and water recycling systems that we do not yet understand very well.  Our activities seem to influence how these systems function.  If the systems start functioning even a little different, this could very easily produce results that would make the earth uninhabitable for humans or unsuitable for the crops we depend on for food.

U.S. Northeast Will Have Coldest Winter in a Decade

Sept. 28 (Bloomberg) -- The U.S. Northeast will have the coldest winter in a decade because of a weak El Nino, a warming current in the Pacific Ocean, according to Matt Rogers, a forecaster at Commodity Weather Group.

“Weak El Ninos are notorious for cold and snowy weather on the Eastern seaboard,” Rogers said in a Bloomberg Television interview from Washington. “About 70 percent to 75 percent of the time a weak El Nino will deliver the goods in terms of above-normal heating demand and cold weather. It’s pretty good odds.”
Warming in the Pacific often means fewer Atlantic hurricanes and higher temperatures in the U.S. Northeast during January, February and March, according to the National Weather Service. El Nino occurs every two to five years, on average, and lasts about 12 months, according to the service.
Hedge-fund managers and other large speculators increased their net-long positions, or bets prices will rise, in New York heating oil futures in the week ended Sep. 22, according to U.S. Commodity Futures Trading Commission data Sept. 25.
“It could be one of the coldest winters, or the coldest, winter of the decade,” Rogers said.
U.S. inventories of distillate fuels, which include heating oil, are at their highest since January 1983, the U.S. Energy Department said Sept. 23. Stockpiles of 170.8 million barrels in the week ended Sept. 18 are 28 percent above the five-year average.

Heating oil for October delivery rose 1.38 cents, or 0.8 percent, to settle at $1.6909 a gallon on the New York Mercantile Exchange.
