God is a creature of human thinking; people created God

they needed a something to believe in
because believing in yourself; being sure of your actions and having no fear for social errors; is one of most difficult things to a lot of people. A group of humans also believe in God, because they don't want to stand out, being in contrast with other humans; (peer pressure)

certainly a long time ago, when not all strange things could be explained by science; we liked to have something to hold on

of course my English is bad (i'm sorry)
and there are multiple interpretations of the meaning what God is

Nothing is impossible

God is the source of all creation, all of it, the entire universe. We cannot explain what it is as human language and intelect do not sufice for it. Its like humans to bacteria - they can't understand or explain us. However, we can see aspects of god and feel and understand them. Its like seeing a shadow of a man... its not the man but it is some aspect of a man, in the same manner, whenever we feel hapiness - this is an aspect of god... please note that this is also the very basis of all our pursuit - hapiness. We seek hapiness through anything we do, honor, ego, larger car, another woman, love, respect... these are all instruments for us to feel happy... god is the source of that feeling and there are ways to get closer to god by increasing the levels of hapiness through ancient methods that do not relate to anything material like cars, sex or otherwise. One can know god if he wishes, but it takes many years to develop the necessary level of awareness. Its up to you, if you really want to know God.

If atheism is a religion, then health is a disease - Clark Adams

God is a human invention to answer the need for an ultimate "reason" for things.

The common properties associated with god include:

  • Omniscient - all knowing
  • Omnipotent - all powerful
  • Omnibenovelent -  all good
  • Eternal
  • Uncaused creator of the universe
  • Caring for human beings, especially those of a given religion

Of course, these properties are not without problems, for example, the existence of evil and suffering don't really go together with the first three.

"What you think you know may not be so."

God is an invention. God is the sum of what we don't know. We fear what we don't know. For many people, the idea of God is reassuring to them. As an atheist, I don't fear the unknown. I look forward to understanding as much as I can.

God is a supreme being and we were created in His image as declared in the book of Genesis in the Tenach or bible.
