the frame, unless they specifically ask for the EIN, and this would be in addition to the frame number

I'm in Oregon if that matters.

 Thanks for the reply. Interesting, I thought it would be the EIN that would be registered, as that's the most valuable part of the bike. Also, the VIN/EIN seem to be used interchangeably sometimes, esp. when they are the same numbers. Why else have the EIN on the engine if it's not used?

Hi.  I'm from Michigan.  I haven't registered a motorcycle for decades so I may be out of date.  I thought the EIN was for theft prevention and insurance.

Here's your official department of motor vehicles.  They have the right answer.
