Why is it that when I hear a recording of my voice it sounds different from the usual way I hear myself speak.

when you hear yourself you hear your voice from "inside" your body - it uses your bones to transfer the sound not the air.
on a good recording, you will hear yourself as other hear you (scary, isn't it?)
