irswe had already filed 2008 tax return and on feb.11,2009 we recieved a 1099 in the mail from a former employer for over 2000 dollers earned in 2008. my husband did not even work for him in 2008, and we are not getting any response from our phone calls to him, and we don't know what to do.
notify irs he did not work there and this 1099 needs to be disputed and irs will want proof from comp that he did or did not work

I would call your local IRS office and ask them what you should do, tell them the situation, and see what they say. If you don't, that $2,000 is going to flag your tax return when they notice it isn't listed and that usually means AUDIT ::shudder::
Better safe than sorry, just make sure your write down the name of the IRS agent you talk to, the time you called, the date you called, and everything that was said, just in case you get audited down the road you got written documentation to back you up.
Smile, it's contagious!
The best thing you could probablly do under those circumstances is to contact the IRS and explain the situation to them. If in fact your right, he could be investigated. Most likely would receive a fine and maybe even jail time. As long as you didn't do anything wrong your in the clear. Do follow up as directed by IRS. --- C1
