How can we re-direct our business?

My husband and I own two bowling centers. Our loans will be paid off in 4 and 5 years. In the meantime, revenues are down, we are low in running capital, and our credit is maxed out. How can we "re-invent the wheel"? We are trying to make our business dynamic again but we are always running a week or two behind.

What have you done to expand your customer base? Have you thought of offering special deals to company bowling teams and sponsoring tournaments or special deals for mothers and children after school hours and before dinner time?

Ask your customers what they think would be cool to do!

Have a "free" night of bowling to bring in crowds and ask them what they think you could do to make the place a rock!

You've got to be different. wildly different!! Offer some top notch pizzas and crazy beers.

Have you thought about expanding your business into adjacent markets that attract the same customer base.  ie, add a restaurant/bar, other leagues, like darts, or partnerships for co-promotion with other businesses where you can send each other customers.

Thanks for ur responce.  Both locations have bar/lounge, grill and game rooms.  In the last month we have started a "War-of-the-bands" on saturday night combined with our version of "cosmic bowling" and we are looking for stand-up comedians.  Any ideas on co-promotion?

I wonder if some of this applies to reorganizing one’s entire life. I just got around to reading about your decluttering process and love it. I’m not terribly cluttered but I sure am heading in that direction. It is the treasure become trash issue. And Super Squirrel is brilliant…he is inherently brilliant but this constructive renaming is genius. Then there is my closet…let’s not go there just yet.

You can have everything in life your want if you will just help enough other people get what they want

Bowling Centers as a business has declined because the cost of a day at the bowling alley for a family is better spent on food and education for the children.

At one point in time I was on a team that bowled every week. We got trophys and cash at the end of the season. Many companies do not sponsor bowling on the back of the bowling shirts. Those who bowled every week find they have to go out and get a second job.

Many parents are in need of after school activities between 3 and 6 PM like Karate. Do you really think the parents are buying Karate lessons? They are hiring baby sitters. $5 an hour, 3 hours a day, 5 days a week is $75 each participant per week.

After months of focusing on learning about new ways to think about my business, I realize I could investigate options forever. I would actually really enjoy that, since I love to learn and have an almost insatiable appetite for new information.
