What steps do i need to take to bring down a puppy ...

what steps do i need to take to bring down a puppy mill in sharon springs ny

the people that run this mill live in squaller themselves. the kennels are up on a hill so i cant get a good look at the conditions of the animals, but if its anything like the house i know there must be some sort of law that prohibits this kind of cruelty. we are at our wits end to get this place closed down. after oprah did her puppy mill story in penn. now the mills are taking over upstate ny. i live in a town of about 2300 people and we already have 2 puppy mills, and one that got turned down by the zoning board. one of the problems we have here is that no one is educated on the cruelty of these mills. i myself have 2 puppy mill dogs and another one that was duct taped to the bottom of a cardboard box and left by a dumpster, he came to my home with hardly any hair left on him from them removing the tape, and he was quite vicious, and i had alot of bite marks to prove it. now hes doing great and sticking to me like velcro. my puppy mill dogs which are all chihuahuas, one has a collapsed tracea, and the other one is huge, and very timid. this has got to stop. i need help to start the prosses of ending this cruelty. i had another dog that has since passed that i rescued from a crack house in paterson, nj where she was pregnant twice a year for 7 years, never touched grass, never had a kind hand touch her, but her puppys were worth $2000-$3000 a piece because she was a english red nosed pit bull. because of this and the fact that she wasnt spayed till she was 8 (she came to me pregnant) she died of mammory cancer. my vet said that since she was spayed at such an older age thats what caused the cancer. im now involved in rescue group called forgotten friends pet rescue, where we rescue horses, goats, pigs, donkeys, ducks, cats,, and dogs. another question i would like to ask is how does a smaller rescue group like ourselves get money to help feed all these animals. like i said before the people up here have no idea about animal cruelty. this last winter was hell. at this moment im $500 minus in my bank account. lately we've had to turn down some horses that are so thin you can see every bone in its body, i would say about 200 pounds underweight. but we're considered a small rescue group, but no matter how small we are we still need to feed the animals we have. we need help with trying to shut downn this puppy mill, and im told the only way to do that is to have the aspca go to the property  and close it down themselves. and as per our lack of money to feed our animals. i will take any suggestion you have.

thank you very much

I hope you were able to find help through the numbers which Lalamae and Leann provided.

I also hope you'll consider checking out this site and taking action to improve New York's laws on mills.

Finally, as far as getting financial aid for your rescue, I'm not familiar with your area but I would try to get some publicity for the work you are doing through your regional TV stations and papers

i have been emailing these guys, twice so far, and im still waiting to hear back, ive also invited them to our zoning board meeting the last tuesday of the month. ive given them all the information i have gathered plus some, on names, emails, websites, addresses. i want to thank you for your feedback and concern on this matter.its amazing how the public is not educated on the abuse these animals, mostly the bitch had to live pregnant and neglected for their entire lives. or until they're no more use to them, and usually killed by their owners own hands.

thanks for your concern

we have  contacted the spca numerous times. its that their are so few agents to investigate all the mills and complaints on abuse, its nearly impossible to get them to come out here. we're in the middle of nowhere. people dont realize how many back roads, places that are hidden from roads to people. some people dont even know they have a neighbor. thats why we have so many pot farms and meth labs, and puppy mills. no one knows they're there. just the other day we had a reporter come out to our rescue farm and do a piece on our animals, which of course led to the puppy mill problem we have. shes presenting this story to her producers to see if she can do a more in depth story about the puppy mills. trust me we jump on anything that will help feed our former abused animals and the puppy mills

thank you for your concern and your response

i just went on to this website and there was my letter andn imformation. i write so many people about our puppy mill infestation in upstate ny that i forget sometimes that i had already done that one. and this is one of those cases.

thanks for your concern and please continue our uphill fight to stop the puppy mills, not just in upstate ny, but all over the country

After two decades of my state, Pennsylvania, being labeled "the puppy mill capital of the east," last year thanks to a governor dedicated to the cause along with lots of help from groups such as the SPCA and HSUS and thousands of volunteers, we finally got legislation passed with some teeth and some of the worst mills are now being shut down. If reform can happen here, there is hope that it can happen anywhere

Ms. MacFarlane,

You are ignorant, you accuse and Doug Varin and Allyson Haynes of Davens Acres of living in squallier. Do you know that a contractor ripped them off for $15,000, which was meant to assist in the remodeling of their home?  The kennel you are refer to that is up on the hill, that can not be clearly visible form the road is a two year old heated floor and cooling capabilities which cost $25,000. The dogs have a better home than Mr. Varin and Ms Haynes.

Your little rant about the abuse and neglect that can occur in some puppy mills is probably true in some cases, but in this case is not justified. If you took the time to research AKC records Davens have 10-15 dogs ages 2-10 that have been bred only once or twice. Davens have ten dogs that are retired Davens raises and breeds and show, show quality dogs. Half of the dogs at Davens are not active in the advancement of the bred at the kennel. This to me would make them a poor excuse as a puppy; this kind of puts a wrinkle in your so called crusade against puppy mills.

As to the health and care of the dogs I am sure that veterinarians Dr. Linda Kolnick and Dr. Susan Black who have been the vets for Davens Acres for the past ten years. All dogs are very healthy ranging form the Kitty a 151/2 year old Sheba Inu to the youngest puppy. Anyone reading this should visit davensacres.net and see Doug and Allyson’s website if you still have question or doubts you can call and tour the kennel I am sure Davens would be happy to show their dogs. All you have to do is ask instead of pull the stunt Ms MacFarlane and her cohorts have done which is making false accusations against the care the dogs receive.

Now Ms Macfarlane and company have gotten law enforcement involved there will be legal repercussions. Ms Macfarlane and friend should be ashamed of the aftermath that will face the true animal rescues forced upon them by all the fanatics. All statements made through out this post can be proven as factual.
