What kind of puppy should I buy if I want a loyal dog that likes to lick?

What kind of puppy should I buy if I want a loyal dog that likes to lick?

I love affectionate dogs and I am in the market for a new puppy.  Any suggestions? Any one have puppy pictures they could share?

I guess we all fall in love with our dogs, since they love us unconditionally and where can you find that in this world? My favorite dog for kids is the Newfoundland . They all have incredible natures and just love kids. They get very large and will protect the child. And they are very cuddly and will lick and be incredibly affectionate. Mine used to walk the whole neighbourhood of kids to the local school, giving them all love, and come home on his own,and then wait at the school  to walk them home. He used to sleep with the cat,and the cat loved him.

Rie,

Did you adopt from a humane shelter or a government operated impound ran by  a local "animal control"   There is a difference!  Animal control is going to be a lot more lax in the adoption process (which does not help any one).  If you go to a "No Kill' Animal shelter they would advise you on the best dog for your family and most are also bound by the guidelines of their organization.  The guide lines include temperment testing, a full check-up by a Vet and will need to have all members including your family and any other pets in you house hold interact with  the dog prior to the adoption.  I'm sorry your daughter and son were bitten by your dog.  Please don't condemn all shelter dogs.  I have been a shelter volunteer at various shelters for over a decade and there are great dogs there.  Just a question did you adopt from a no kill shelter or your local city-funded animal control?  Please be specific.   And I would recommend a larger breed for anyone with small children.  Larger breeds like a Retriever are very patients and loving.  As are Standard Poodles. All puppies will nip when they play.  And when you want to hold them, most puppies will try to play.   They do have very sharp teeth and will break skin.  But don't think you have a bad dog; what you've got is a normal puppy; I have NEVER seen a puppy who doesn't want to explore and PLAY; it is their nature.  Please educate yourself before you discourage anyone from considering adoption as their first option.  I have seen many adult dogs who are well-trained and house broken.  You sound like a very bitter person based on your utter contempt from one ignorant choice YOU made.  Do your research.

We breed labs and our youngest is a real licker!!! (we also had a springer spaniel I nicknamed tongues malloy because she was such a licker!) Labs are about the most loveable, loyal dogs ever. to add to the post I am reading below, if you want a pure bread but want to help out with the pet over population problem (and probably a really loveable dog who will appreciate you) look to adopt from a breed rescue society. They seem to be available for just about any breed! Good luck

In my experience I have had several dogs, all rescues I loved them all but I enjoy time with my small dogs the best. I currently have a Dachund, Beagle and Tibetan Spaniel. All of them picked me to live with. The large dogs I have had which we very loyal were my Rots and Boxers. The only thing with the large dogs are they only have a life expectancy of 6 to 7 years which makes it hard on kids when they pass. Small breads will be with you for much longer and are great companions.

There's only one. Are you THE ONE?

I think that you should get a Golden Retriever because they are cute no matter what age and are really loyal and friendly dogs. I used  to have one and it was the best dog i have ever had. They love to play and lick and are one of th greatest dogs!
