A:

Pumpkins are usually harvested in late September to late October.  That is why they are used for Halloween.  They are not supposed to be ripe yet.

You are right but in Vermont  all the farm stands have their pumpkins picked because there could be a frost at any time,

I don't think that frost is an issue with pumpkins??  We used to go out in the morning and draw faces in the frost on ours.  They are a late fall veggie, so I didn't think you had to worry about frost.
