Public Records Real Estate, Free Property Owner Search?

How to find public records for real estate in my neighborhood?

I want to see at what prices certain property was bought for and what it recently sold for.

I have the property addresses so perhaps there is a way I can find out who the property owner is and then search the records from there?

Any ideas?

ADD;

Thanks Karen, that clears things up a little.
Good link, very helpful as they also offer a money back guarantee!

I use Gov real estate records search , from there I find out the property owner's name from the street address.

From the property owner's name you get the property history at Gov real estate searches (at the same website). This will give you all the info that you are looking for about the property.

This is not a free service, but you will find it difficult to match the quality, reliablity, ease and relevancy of information supplied, with "free" searches that usually have very limited (and seldom up to date) databases.

Before using this property records website I wasted lots of time on so called free websites and small county and governmental sites,

some problems I had were:

1) Info from free real estate records and governmental sites are rarely current and mostly their databases are too small -  I always questioned the reliability of data.

2) Many of the so called "free" property title search sites say the search is free but you must pay for the info?! And most times they just link to paid sites.

3) and Most importantly : The smaller property records sites cover only small areas or counties, therefore making it difficult to obtain complete and/or accurate info.

Hope that helps, all the best.

Try going to your local real estate investors association. They normally have meetings once a month and as a guest you can usually attend for free. If you want to get into commercial, try working at a commercial only brokerage.

Marin County IS a hat for every different head!

Hey Marge, Gov-Resources.com that Karen recommended periodically updates from local county records. You might want to check on the current record update. If your interest is soley local you might want to talk with the county about online access to records and find out where they pipe their information so that you can obtain most current info at best rates.
