Sir, My aunt aged 65 yrs presently is suffering from some psycatric problem. Her doctor has advised to take tablets of ativan and olimelt 5mg daily at night time. If she does not takes the tablets, she speaks on herself she feels uneasy, as if she is afraid of somebody. Her pshycatric problem was right from the early age of around 25-30 years. She used to be very much untolerable and used to shout, the treatment was started at that time only, but now this is going on for years. Is this disease not permanently curable. She is not able to live and talk like normal people. She remains calm now most of time and is unable to do anywork on her own. We have to tell her to do this work, do that work. Kindly guide me. Thanks kishoreom@rediffmail.com

It sounds like the doctor is still trying to figure out what medications work for your aunt. Try to be supportive and helpful wherever you can.

Dear Kishore,

Your aunt is taking medicines for mood disorders because the medicines you said is prescribing for mood disorders and anxiety. So the things are now under control. Whenever she is withdrawing from medicines, the symptoms reappear. Here it is important to continue the medicines, and at the same you have to consult a clinical psychologist for some kind of psychotherapy such as CBT or social skill training.Try for it. Have a nice time! Bye.
