How to properly clean toilet seat, lid and bowl

I have read how to properly clean a toilet. They always give directions on cleaning the bowl, but not the toilet seat and lid. Is it wrong to use the wet brush from the bowl and clean the seat at the same time, or does this spread germs? If I spray cleaner, like Clorox Cleanup on seat and use sponge, I feel like I should rinse with water, then dry. Then, shouldn't use sponge for any other purpose. Right? I want to avoid scratching plastic seat, or etching painted wood seats by using too strong of chemicals or too rough of cleansers.

I would never clean the seat with the toilet brush; you're right, it would spread too many germs.  I use a rag with any of a variety of cleaners I have, then follow up with a disinfectant wipe, without rinsing. I clean the rest of the bathroom first with the rag and the toilet parts last.  The rag goes in the laundry.  I  also use the disinfectant wipes after my 6-year-old grandson(whose aim is terrible!) has been here.

Oooh, now I get it..

URI93 is absolutey correct! Your toilet brush by its very useful nature is always going to have tons of germs on it. When cleaning your bathroom you should always clean the toilet last so as to avoid spreading the germs from that area onto other areas of your bathroom. Flylady.com and Tipnut.com also have great tips on how to clean like a pro. One last good thing to know is that if you always close the lid on your toilet before flushing you greatly reduce germs on all the other surfaces in the bathroom(watched Dr. Oz talking about this on the Oprah show). Hope this helped!
