I am having a problem with my aol desktop email. changed from aol.com to aim.com

I am having a problem with my aol desktop email. THis just started two days ago. My email address changed from aol.com to aim.com and I lost my aol saved and sent folders as they now became aim folders. I reinstalled aol desktop and it does not allow me to add my aol account. I have other aol accounts it does allow me to add, with all the folders active, but not my main stevenrosen1967@aol.com address. Also, all my read email stays in my new folder until I delete it. I want to just have my new unread email in there. Please help.

I am the having exact same problem which occurred in the same timeframe. Spoke with AOL Tech Support... said first they heard of it.  said wait 2 days and if still a problem, uninstall and reinstall (major hassle).  I asked if I could delete the @aim e-mail and then add @aol e-mail back in and they said yes... but that is not allowed.

Wondering why AOL Desktop doesnot appear on the AOL downloads page on www.aol.com.

Too many bugs?

Steven,

Are you still having the problem?   It looks like you switched your mailbox to the "unified inbox" style as described here http://help.channels.aol.com/kjump.adp?articleId=223569.  Then it looks like you switched back to new and old mail folder.  Can you confirm?

When you switched to unified inbox style it should not have changed your email address to aim, prevented you from continuing to use the AOL Desktop or changed your folders.

It would have changed how your mail is displayed from old/new folder to displaying both read and unread mail in your inbox as you described.

If possible I would like to see a screen capture of what you saw when you went to webmail.aol.com?   I would also be interested to know more about what happened to you aol desktop client after the change. Please contact me at chbiegel@aol.com .

I know of a fairly unknown method to convert AIM accounts to AOL accounts. It involves a known limitation in how AOL authorizes new accounts and likely could be patched. Last time I tried this was about a year ago.

The good news is that AOL handles all inbound emails to "aim.com" and "aol.com" the same, so you can be comforted that people can email you. This is typically caused when an AOL account is canceled, and migrates out of their system and becomes an AIM account.

AOL staff can't change you back to "aol.com" at least no one there that can after their recent staff reductions.

Contact me privately and I might be able to attempt my method again.

This problem was resolved by having the user completely sign-out of the AOL Desktop client, shutdown the client and then restart the client.

I am having the same problem

I did not "upgrade" to a "unified inbox."
While its bad enough that my emails are showing up as screenname@aim.com and therefor getting rejected by listservs to which I'm subscribed as screenname@aol.com , the far worse problem is that all of my "saved email" folders - the PFC - are now missing.   I had 10 years of emails saved there - migrated from platform to platform, computer to computer.  All of my PFC files remain on my C: drive, but I can't access them.
I don't even have an "old mail" folder anymore.
Another clue: I can log on to my proper aol account on the internet.  When I do so it no longer responds that I am alreadly logged on as screenname@aol.com and asks if there's a problem.
Evidently the AOL servers consider my AOL Desktop to be logged on as screenname@aim.com , so they see no problem.
I spent over 2 hours on the phone with several tech support folks.  They had me uninstall AOL desktop and reinstall it - twice.  No luck.
The most helpful said that they hoped that the servers could be fixed sometime soon, but that my saved PFC files were toast. sigh.  i'm a 15-year aol user.

I'm having this problem too, it's really annoying.

The only way I was able to solve this problem 2 months ago was uninstall AOL Desktop and load AOL 9.1.  I like AOL Desktop better but couldn't get my screenname@aol.com back from screenname@aim.com.  Don't know why it switched, lost all my files saved on AOL, etc.  They all came back once I was able to install 9.1.  Now this problem is happening to my husband on a different computer.  Any other suggestions?????
