Is "correctional institution" just another word ...

Is "correctional institution" just another word for prison, or is there a difference between the two?

Hi,


Yes, there is a difference between the two.  Prison is more sitting in a closed place with daily routine.  "Correctional institution" is more open, trying to correct the person's paradigmas / approches / behaviours.  Prison is more "a sort of punishment" while correctional institution is more like a school aiming to put the person back to track, trying to teach him or change his bad ways / habits.

They are one and the same.  Unless there is another type of correctional institution that is not a prison that I am not aware of, all prisons and jails are considered "correctional institutions".  I speak from experience!
