Hi Chris: First, 2 years isn't that long for a drug charge. He must not have been the ring leader but merely an accessory. Frankly, he will probably have to serve the entire time. Prision officials do review inmates records from time to time though and there is a slim possibility for an early release. They look at things such as behaviour patterns, is he willing to work/do chores at his place of confinement, who his inmate friends are, the severity of his crime and previous convictions. Now, Chris, on a brighter note, many jails and prisions are severly over crowded. Plus many States are having financial difficulties. I've heard figures like it costs $202,000 per year to keep an inmate! (You haven't said where you are located. State, City?) Some States are considering early release programs for inmates that have served more than one half of their time and have a clean record. California is considering releasing 43,000 inmates over the next 12 months. Michigan and Kentucky are also looking at doing the same. So if you tell me your location I could give you some info as to where to find about early release in your State and City. Keep in mind that he will need a responsible person to parole to. Parole violations will put him back in with additional time! I will check back here later for your response and location.
