My granddaughter painted a face on a small pumpkin for me and I want to keep it forever. What can I do to keep it from rotting etc.

Thin slices of thought cut quickest.

Hi Barb,

I think the best way for you to preserve this is to photograph it from alot of different angles. Then if you really want to you could try to have her or yourself recreate it on a ceramic or other type of non perishable pumpkin. I just do not see how you can keep it for any number of years. If you deep freeze it I do not know what it would do to the paint or the pumpkin but I imagine it would not be pretty over time. Sorry I just think a photo and/or a recreation will stand up alot better. Maybe have her do this next time on ceramic or glass. Just look into how you can preserve that over the years. (If it was painted on ceramic or a similar material you could clearcoat it with a spraycan from a hardware to help preserve it). Sorry I hope someone can tell you a way to do this.

Thanks Matt but there may not be a next time. My daughter in law and I had a fight and she will not let us see our granddaughter. It has gone on since August and we have only seen her 3 times for very short periods. My heart is breaking and I so want to preserve this some way. I thought it was like a gourd where they get hard and I think they keep forever. I will take some pictures of it though. That is a good idea.

Thanks,

Barb
