looking for a portable GPS device which one should I get? I have seen that some of the models have built in maps, and others don't, what is the difference?
There are 3 major types of portable GPS devices. The first one is a pure GPS module which outputs either to a screen (which is sometimes part of the module) or to another device the current location.
The second one is a GPS device which has maps and can be updated with maps.
The third one is a GPS incorporated in another device such as a PDA in which you can use it like the first device (just output the location to the screen) or you can install a geographic system with maps which can show you your location directly on the map.
The desicion of what you want/need depends on your needs. If you like to work with regular paper maps, you can get the simple GPS that only outputs the location.
If you already have a PDA (either one of the new Palm Pilots or any Windows Mobile 2003-2005 edition based PDA) and the PDA doesn't have a built in GPS, you can get one of the Bluetooth or wired GPSes (the wired was connect using a cable to your PDA) and then either get only the location or install a mapping software to see the maps on your PDA.
The most expensive option is to get a PDA that has built in GPS and buy and install a mapping software on it.

Hi, I would like to buy GPS PDA with WM5, BT, WiFi. What is your recommandation? Where can I find the best prices? Yours, Tal.Rosenberger@gmail.com
I have owned several gps devices including the two I own now, a MIO C230 and a Magellan Maestro 3140 which is probably the best I've owned to date. It is accurate, acquires satellites very quickly, has text to speech turn by turn directions and AAA tour book installed. The touir book can be updated quarterly, free of charge on the AAA website I think this unit is a great buy for $150.00 from buy.com
Here's a gps review site worth looking at: GPS REVIEWS
I have owned two models in the past, and they have all worked awesome for me, but if your looking for a real unbiased opinion then go check out this guys blog on gps units. He has reviews, and even articles comparing all the different models and what to look for if you're going to buy one. He also has some killer deals if you want to buy some right from his site. That's where i got mine.
